August 2, 2022When we talk about protein, often the conversation is about getting more of it into our bodies, as in a protein-rich diet.
But sometimes proteins, which are complex molecules made up of amino acids, arent good for our health. If a string of amino acids doesnt form properly, which is known as misfolding, it can cause diseases such as cystic fibrosis and Huntingtons disease.
Sometimes a proteins structure is normal but theres too much of it or its too active. Thats the case with a protein called HER2-positive that has been linked to a type of breast cancer.
In our body, HER2 is a protein and its found in many cells in our body, not just breast, Dr. Paola Marignani, a cancer researcher at Dalhousie University, said in a recent interview.
