January 14, 2015Scientists at Dalhousie University’s medical school have found a never-before-used combination of drugs that shut down aggressive breast cancer tumours and prevent the disease from recurring.
The two experimental drugs are, separately, in early stages of testing, but not in the treatment of breast cancer.
But a team led by Dr. Paola Marignani took a unique approach: combining them for targeted attacks on HER2-positive tumours in mice. That’s a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer that affects about one out of every four of the 23,000 Canadian women who get the disease annually.
